Inner Edge Psychology is an independent sport performance consultancy providing up-to-date, evidence-informed education, workshops, and practical performance resources for athletes, coaches, sporting organisations, and clubs.

Inner Edge Psychology does not provide psychological assessment, diagnosis, treatment, counselling, psychotherapy, or any services that require registration as a psychologist under Australian law. The services provided are educational and consultative in nature and are designed to translate evidence-informed sport psychology principles into practical strategies that can be applied within sporting environments. References in this Policy to “consultations” and “workshops” refer to this educational service.

Where an individual requires psychological assessment, mental health support, or psychological treatment, they should seek the services of an appropriately qualified and registered health professional.

3. Whether the Privacy Act applies to us

The Privacy Act generally exempts small businesses from most of its requirements. Based on its current status, Inner Edge Psychology is a small business for the purposes of the Privacy Act.

However, the small business exemption does not apply to organisations that are “health service providers”, regardless of turnover. Because Inner Edge Psychology operates in the sport psychology space and may, from time to time, hold information about a person’s physical or mental health (for example, information volunteered during a consultation), there is a reasonable chance the business is treated as a health service provider under the Privacy Act — irrespective of the fact that we do not provide clinical psychological services.

Rather than relying on the small business exemption, Inner Edge Psychology has chosen to voluntarily handle all personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles, as a matter of good practice and to give clients and participants certainty about how their information is handled.

During complimentary consultations or workshops, participants may voluntarily share information about their physical or mental wellbeing, performance concerns, or similar matters. We do not seek to collect sensitive information beyond what is reasonably necessary to recommend suitable educational workshops, and we will not use or disclose it for any other purpose without consent, except where required or permitted by law.

7. Complimentary consultations

Complimentary consultations do not constitute psychological assessment, treatment, diagnosis, or counselling of any kind.

Where consultation notes are taken, they are retained only for legitimate business purposes and are managed in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

8. Children and minors

Some workshop participants may be under 18 years of age (for example, junior athletes engaged through a school, club, or sporting organisation). As set out in section 7 of our Terms & Conditions, where a booking organisation engages us to deliver services involving participants under 18, that organisation is responsible for obtaining any necessary parental or guardian consent, including consent for any recording, photography, or documentation.

We generally collect personal information about a participant under 18 from, or with the involvement of, the booking organisation, rather than directly from the minor, and we rely on that organisation's confirmation that appropriate consents are in place. We do not independently verify individual parental or guardian consent.

9. How we store and protect your information

Inner Edge Psychology takes reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification, or disclosure.

Personal information may be stored electronically using secure business systems and cloud-based platforms used to operate the business. While reasonable precautions are taken, no method of electronic storage or internet transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Overseas storage

Some of the third-party platforms we use (see section 10) may store or process personal information on servers located outside Australia, including in the United States. Where this occurs, we take reasonable steps to ensure those providers handle personal information in a manner consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles, but we cannot guarantee the specific privacy laws of another country will provide equivalent protection.

However, workshops often involve group participation. As such, Inner Edge Psychology cannot guarantee the confidentiality of information voluntarily shared by participants during group discussions.

Inner Edge Psychology has processes in place aimed at preventing data breaches and responding appropriately if one occurs. If we become aware of a data breach involving personal information that is likely to result in serious harm to an individual, we will take reasonable steps consistent with the Notifiable Data Breaches (NDB) scheme under Part IIIC of the Privacy Act, including notifying affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) where required.

15. Data retention

Personal information is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary to:
